KABUL (AFP) -- A soldier with the NATO-led force fighting the Taliban-led insurgency in southern Afghanistan was killed in an explosion that also wounded five other troopers, the alliance's force said Monday.

The International Security Assistance Force soldiers were in vehicles that were struck by the blast on Sunday, ISAF said in a statement.
It took to 10 the number of international troops killed in Afghanistan this year.
ISAF gave no details of the Saturday incident, including the nationalities of those involved. The 39-nation force leaves this up to the soldiers' governments to announce.
ISAF is working with a U.S.-led coalition and Afghan forces to defeat an insurgency led by the hardline Taleban movement that was driven from government in late 2001 for sheltering Osama bin Laden and his Al-Qaeda network.
The violence was its bloodiest last year and officials have said 2008 will also be tough.
